The San Marcos globe is another model from the Frank Lloyd Wright series of globes from Replogle Globes. In 1928, Frank Lloyd Wright began creating a major remodeling project of the existing resort, the San Marcos in the Desert Hotel on the outskirts of Phoenix. The project was never completed due to the 1929 stock market crash but the building design and the interior renderings contain a variety of interesting furniture and decorative features. This adapted globe stand showcases the 60 degree angled legs and the hexagonal top of a small accent table designed for the totally new special Dining Pavilion bordered by the garden terraces of the San Marcos in the Desert Hotel in Chandler, Arizona.
The antique ocean globe ball on the Replogle San Marcos globe has raised relief and is 12" in diameter while offering approximately 4500 place names. It stands 22" tall and has a total width of 18".
Currently, the Replogle San Marcos globe sells most places for just under $350.00. You can definitely find a less expensive 12" desk globe but the San Marcos stand and story behind it makes this globe worth considering.
